How does app store review work, and what causes rejections?
Apple and Google review every submission before release, usually within one or two days. Common reasons for rejection include a missing or inaccurate privacy policy, no in-app option to delete an account, unnecessary sign-in requirements, digital purchases made outside the platform’s billing system, permission requests without a clear explanation and incomplete review notes or missing demo credentials.
Rejections are a normal part of the process and usually come with specific feedback. We plan for at least one review cycle so launch dates are not affected.
Two requirements often catch teams by surprise. Apps that allow account creation must allow account deletion within the app. Digital goods used within the app must generally be sold through the platform’s own billing system.
Both platforms require an accurate declaration of the data collected and how it is used, including by third-party SDKs such as analytics and advertising libraries.
Providing a working demo account with sample data, along with clear review notes, avoids unnecessary delays.
